Petr Pelzmann lives and works in Prague, Czech Republic. His artistic journey does not stem from formal academic training but from an innate drive for self-expression. Painting became his primary medium, naturally complemented by drawing and collage—not merely as supporting techniques but as integral elements of his distinctive visual language and entity.

Observing Pelzmann’s work over the years means witnessing a continuous evolution. His painting is introspective, reflecting not only his inner landscape but also a deep engagement with painterly techniques, composition, and the very essence of the medium. Early in his career, his works were raw, expressive, sometimes even abstract. This intensity became a defining characteristic, making his art unmistakable within a contemporary scene often preoccupied with instant visibility. Yet, Pelzmann never needed to demand attention—his work possesses an inherent strength and a clearly recognizable artistic voice.

His paintings balance playfulness with discipline. Forms and figures emerge with an effortless fluidity that does not diminish their impact but rather amplifies their authenticity. Each canvas becomes a space for dialogue—between the viewer and the figures, between color and emotion, between spontaneity and deliberate composition. Pelzmann’s works have a soul that calls for engagement; once a viewer connects with them, a world opens up—one that is both free and precise, intuitive and intentional.

The exhibition Unknown at Ravnikar Gallery in Ljubljana presents a series of small-scale portraits—a format in which Pelzmann excels. Despite their intimate dimensions, these works display remarkable technical refinement, vibrant color dynamics, and a keen sensitivity to expression. For Pelzmann, the human face is an open book, one he not only reads but also inscribes with his own interpretation. Each portrait in this series captures not only the subject’s immediate state but also an elusive essence that makes a face feel alive and compelling.

Pelzmann’s current work affirms his position as an artist who effortlessly balances gesture and precision, emotion and form. His exhibition in Ljubljana marks another step in his fascinating journey—and extends an invitation for the viewer to step inside.
